Bibles for Missions Thrift Center: What do you do in your spare time? Would you enjoy spending a few hours with friends opening "presents"? Would you like to help local residents purchase quality items at reasonable prices? Would you like to help send Bibles to Christians in Romania? You can do all of these. Please talk to your family members, friends, study group, or club about doing a 3-hour service project at the Bibles for Missions Thrift Center. Individuals and groups willing to volunteer for 3 hours are needed to help process the gifts of furniture, housewares, and clothing that the Center has received. Volunteers for PCGS’s 100th Anniversary Celebration: The steering committee for the Pella Christian Grade School 100th Anniversary celebration is hard at work making plans for the exciting celebration that will, Lord willing, take place in July, 2012. Several sub-committees are in the process of being set up and we are asking for volunteers to serve on these committees. The sub-committees are: Program Committee, Promotions and Publicity Committee, Saturday Activities Committee and Food Committee. GEMS Girls’ Clubs Conference in Minneapolis! This week Thursday – Sunday over 570 GEMS Counselors from across North America will be meeting together at Bethel University in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. These three and a half days of leadership training, worship, and fellowship will equip women and prepare them for the upcoming GEMS season. The annul theme, Feed the Fire! will be revealed and women will be challenged to move from apathy to action, keeping their spiritual fervor for serving the Lord. Please join in praying for the event and for each woman who attends, that God will be glorified and that lives will be changed.
Words of HOPE speaker in Pella: The Rev. David Bast, president and broadcast minister of Words of HOPE, will speak at Trinity Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa on Sunday, July 18 at 6 pm. The public is invited to attend. Words of HOPE is an evangelical ministry in the Reformed tradition that works in partnerships to produce Christian radio programs around the world in more than 40 languages. Founded in 1945, the ministry also seeks to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ through literature and the Internet. Bast has been the agency’s president and broadcast minister since 1994. He preaches frequently in churches and conferences around the world. He previously pastored Hamilton (Michigan) Reformed Church, First Reformed Church of South Holland, Ill., and Fifth Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, Mich. A graduate of Hope College, he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Western Theological Seminary.
Slavic Reformation Society: 20-year missionary to Russia and the former USSR, the Rev. Blake Purcell, will be offering some teaching and a presentation about SRS's efforts to bring the love of Christ and the truth of the Bible and our Reformation heritage to this vast region of the world—Thursday, July 22, 6:30 pm at Faith Christian Reformed Church, 215 E. University St., Pella. He will also be preaching at Ebenezer Reformed Church, Leighton, Sunday, July 18, 6 pm.
Gateway to Hope Benefit Concert: Help open a Gateway to Hope for Nicaraguan children by attending a benefit concert at 7 p.m., July 23, at Faith Christian Reformed Church, 215 East University Street in Pella. The goal of this light-hearted musical evening with a Latin flavor is to raise $3,000 in donations so that 100 Nicaraguan children can attend Christian arts camps. Performers include children and adults, soloists, instrumentalists, and a children’s choir. For people unable to be present, tax-deductible donations may be sent to Faith Christian Reformed Church: Nehemiah Center Arts Camps, 215 East University, Pella, IA 50219.
Share What You Wear: Free clothes for absolutely everybody—Friday, July 23 from 3 – 7 pm and Saturday, July 24 from 7 am – Noon at Federated Fellowship Church (south of WorkSystems). Items will be replenished every hour. Offering adult clothing and shoes, youth clothing and shoes, infant clothing, children’s outerwear, new children’s socks and underwear, purses, belts, prom dresses, maternity clothes, bedding, and new school supplies.
Pinewood Derby Races: Join us at the Southern Iowa Fair in Oskaloosa at the Free Stage on Saturday, July 24, for Pinewood Derby Races. Registration is from 1-2 pm and the races will begin at 3 pm. Pre-K through Adults are welcome, 5 oz & 8 oz cars are eligible, standard axle placement only. Rule sheets are available at Wood-N-Stuff (Penn Central Mall). We hope to see you there.
Pella Gospel Sing: You are invited to attend the Pella Gospel Sing on Friday, July 30 from 3 – 9 pm and Saturday, July 31 from 10 am – 9 pm at Pella’s West Market Park. Come as a family or bring a friend to enjoy music from many of the Midwest finest vocal groups. This is a free event; however, love offerings will be received with proceeds going to Teen Challenge of the Midlands. In case of rain, it will be held inside at the Vermeer Global Pavilion.

Classis Central Plains Work Trip to Cedar Rapids: There is still a need for help in Cedar Rapids due to the flood of 2008. A work trip is being planned through the CRWRC on August 7-14. There is room for 15-20 people to stay in the facilities. The work will consist of reconstruction of homes, dry walling, hanging cupboards, painting, and flooring. Newton CRC’s 75th Anniversary Celebration: ADVANCE ANNOUNCEMENT...The Newton Christian Reformed Church plans to celebrate our 75th Anniversary on Sunday, August 8, 2010. Honduras Mission Basket Shop: You’ve asked…We listened! The Honduras Mission Basket Shop will be open more hours this summer. Come to the Molangrat and visit us every Thursday night from 5 – 8 pm through the end of August. We will also be open Friday and Saturday of August 13 – 14. Bible League Mending Bibles: Bible League will be mending Bibles in Pella at the Open Bible Activity Center located on West First Street on September 20 at 1:30 pm.
